It is no surprise that Elizabeth Martin is an artist. Her mother was a portrait artist and grandmother an artist painting furniture. Liz grew up watching talented women in her life but vowed to her grandmother that she would never paint. After a divorce and the need to support herself, Liz would go back to her roots in deciding the path she would follow and "do what she loves". Opening her own business, she began painting furniture with a contemporary flair. Liz took her business to emporium style retailing in Asheville, North Carolina, and then to various places in Knoxville before coming to Goode Scents, Etc. She found that producing hand painted furniture took a long time to make and sell, therefore she added smaller items. From the beginning, Liz has had a goal to separate herself from the average retail business and create a niche that is truly unique. Over fifty percent of what she now sells is handcrafted.
The Mustard Seed is a wonderful escape of the norm to find trendy one-of-a-kind designs in photo frames, whimsical pillows, hand painted pillows in popular motifs stylized from the fabric, fabric covered coasters, and original designed plaques (faith based and popular sayings in cartoon styling). Liz's photo frames are decorated in geometric patterns and topped with fabric ribbon bows or a combination of wire and bead bows. She also carries beverage napkins and greeting cards by Shannon Martin and Design Design.
